Requiem for Alyssandra

Hurriedly they hammered frost onto the field

and with rustling steps the queen strode

over fragile crystalline shards of silver

on the field.

And white she was, tall and proud,

her eyes resolved, her steps mightily youthful

and her smile like the light of an icy moon,

glittering.

Do you know what she said to me at the very end

before the last fight against the demons,

she said: oh how long have you been accompanying me,

thank you.

And she stepped forward onto the nowhere-field

and around her a clear song was ringing,

harp and flute and voices, combined

to victory.

And do you know how small she seemed to be,

and translucent, this figure who knew

that all she had left she would never see again,

that she was lost.

Hurriedly they hammered frost onto the field

so that the queen might lie here safely

beneath fragile crystalline shards of silver

forever.
